Crabcakes emerges victorious at Laurel’s Maryland Million

Multiple stakes winner Crabcakes proved her dominance with another victory at the 32nd Jim McKay Maryland Million. Crabcakes won by a five ¾ length margin over seven other at the Maryland Million at Laurel Park. Crabcakes is a product of Elizabeth Houghton’s Buckingham Farm and trained by Bernie Houghton. This was also the second win in a row for Crabcakes, the daughter of Great Notion. The horse secured a victory over six furlongs in a time of 1.09.63. The three-year old’s last win came at the Miss Disco in August. Trainer Bernie Houghton was impressed by Crabcakes speed and performance in the race. Jockey Forest Boyce broke through the gate with Crabcakes extremely well and settled in after moving in from the outside. In just mere 22 seconds, Crabcakes took over Cable Girl within the quarter mile. The rest of the race Crabcakes just dominated and stretched for the win. This was the fifth win for the horse in just nine career starts. Swing and Sway came in second with If I Were a Boy ending in the third position.


Brent and Russell McLellan on Dragon Bay’s success

Dragon Bay has been quite a successful horse for Russell McLellan. Dragon Bay is already a two time champion of Grade 2 stakes this year. The sport of horse racing always brings the two brothers, Brent McLellan and Russell McLellan, together. With almost $365,000 in his pocket, Dragon Bay has been very essential to the McLellan this year. Dreaming about winning the races, since a child, this has been a dream come true for both the brothers. These two always attended the races with their father from a very young age and started to fall in love with the sport. Currently, they are living their passion with their ownership and even partnering with trainer Stuart Simon. Dragon Bay, who is also a previous winner of the Woodbine race, has been the pride of the McLellan brothers. This Saturday, Dragon Bay takes on the $800,000 Grade 1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile. 


Surprise Wedding favourites to win the Miss Gracie

Experts have ruled Surprise Wedding the favourite, at 5-2 odds to win in Miss Gracie. Starship Bonita’s half-sister, Surprise Wedding is the favourite to win the $100,000 race at Gulfstream Park. After a seven-furlong race victory in August, this is the first race for Surprise Wedding on a turf. All her previous races were on dirt. The Miss Gracie will provide some serious competition out of the 13 races of the day. David Fawkes is ready with Sweet Tooth Haven and Emisael Jaramillo has opted for Gran Cherry. This will be a tough race for Surprise Wedding on a turf.
